Other actives from the same production line
Melatonin, Carnitine and Cyanocobalamin are not peptides. Pepti, Guangzhou makes them on the same line as its peptide raw materials and supplies them on the same terms, so formulators who already buy from the line can add them to an order. They are summarised together here rather than given their own pages, because this site is about cosmetic peptide raw materials.
Why these three are on one page
The site's ingredient list is for peptides and for NAD+, which formulators commonly buy alongside them. The three compounds on this page are small molecules with their own chemistry: an indoleamine, a quaternary-ammonium betaine and a cobalt corrin. They share the production line, the bulk-powder format, the minimum order, cold-chain shipping and the document set, and that is the only reason they appear here. Each one has a short identity sheet, the formulation notes a bench chemist asks for first, and its sources. Earlier single-compound addresses for these materials now redirect to the matching section below.
The same rules apply as everywhere else on the site. Lots are released against a lot certificate of analysis with HPLC purity and mass-spectrometry identity, an SDS is provided on request, and document availability is confirmed per lot. No public batch record is listed for these three compounds yet. Nothing on this page describes what a finished product will do; regulatory status of the finished product is the buyer's responsibility in each market, and melatonin in particular is regulated differently from one market to the next.

Melatonin is not a peptide. It is a small indoleamine, N-acetyl-5-methoxytryptamine, and it appears on this site because Pepti, Guangzhou makes it on the same production line and under the same supply terms as the peptide raw materials: bulk powder from 5 g, cold-chain shipping, lots released against a lot certificate of analysis and a safety data sheet on request. Formulators of scalp tonics and night serums ask for it under the INCI name Melatonin, and their questions are practical: how a lipophilic powder gets into a water-based product, why a clear solution turns yellow, and which markets allow it in a cosmetic at all.
This page answers those three questions with identity data, handling chemistry and a regulatory caveat. The material is the neutral molecule, CAS 73-31-4.
Formulation notes
The notes below are chemistry, not efficacy.
- Light. Melatonin absorbs in the ultraviolet and photodegrades. Add it in the cool-down phase, keep bulk solutions covered and specify opaque or amber packaging. A clear bottle on a lit shelf is the usual reason a melatonin product discolours.
- Oxygen and oxidisers. The indole ring is oxidisable. Keep peroxides and strong oxidising agents out of the same phase. A yellow-to-brown drift in colour is the stability signal to watch.
- pH. There is no ionisable group within the cosmetic pH range, so solubility and stability change little between mildly acidic and neutral bases. Strongly alkaline bases accelerate degradation.
- Chelators. A chelator in the water phase is compatible and helps by binding the trace iron and copper that catalyse oxidation.
- Co-solvent crash-out. Melatonin carried into water by a co-solvent can crystallise on cooling; test the finished product cold and, if crystals form, use more co-solvent, an oil-phase route or a lower use level.
- Regulatory status. Melatonin is listed in CosIng, but several markets classify it as a medicinal substance and exclude it from cosmetics or limit it to certain product types. Check every target market before the formula is finalised; Pepti supplies identity and purity documentation, not a market status.
The use level is the formulator's decision, set from their own stability and tolerance work.

Carnitine is not a peptide. It is a small quaternary-ammonium betaine, L-carnitine, that Pepti, Guangzhou produces on the same line and supplies on the same terms as its peptide raw materials: bulk powder from 5 g, cold-chain shipping, a lot certificate of analysis with the shipment and a safety data sheet on request. Scalp-tonic, shampoo and body-care formulators ask for it under the INCI name Carnitine, and their first question is usually which carnitine is on offer, because the inner salt, the tartrate and the hydrochloride are listed separately and differ in carnitine content per gram.
This page covers the identity of the material Pepti supplies, the inner salt with CAS 541-15-1, and the two handling traits that shape every bench trial with it: it is strongly hygroscopic, and it is a zwitterion that stays charged across the whole cosmetic pH range.
Formulation notes
These are chemistry notes, not efficacy notes.
- Zwitterion across the range. The quaternary ammonium is permanently positive and the carboxylate is deprotonated above its low pKa, so carnitine carries both charges in any base from mildly acidic to neutral. Its solubility barely changes with pH, and it does not act as a buffer.
- Water phase, no co-solvent. Add it to the water phase. It is compatible with glycerin, glycols, anionic and amphoteric surfactants and the usual water-soluble thickeners.
- Heat and alkali. Under strong heat and high pH carnitine can lose water to form crotonobetaine. Keep processing below 40 °C where practical and avoid strongly alkaline bases.
- Hygroscopic bulk. Pre-weighed sub-lots in sealed containers avoid repeated opening of the bulk jar.
- Preservation. Carnitine is a nutrient in the water phase. Preservative efficacy is confirmed by challenge test in the buyer's own base.
- Tartrate substitution. A formula developed with the tartrate cannot take the inner salt weight for weight. Recalculate for the carnitine content and for the missing tartaric acid, which changes the pH of the water phase.
Use level is the formulator's decision, set from their own stability and compatibility work.

Cyanocobalamin (Vitamin B12), CAS 68-19-9

- Molecular formula
- C63H88CoN14O14P

- Appearance
- Dark red crystalline powder
- Solubility
- Soluble in water and ethanol; insoluble in oils. Solutions are red to pink.
- Storage
- −20 °C, desiccated and protected from light; 2–8 °C for working stock. Light-sensitive.
Cyanocobalamin is not a peptide. It is vitamin B12 in its cyano form, a cobalt-centred corrin macrocycle, listed here because Pepti, Guangzhou produces it on the same line and supplies it on the same terms as the peptide raw materials: bulk powder from 5 g, cold-chain shipping, a lot certificate of analysis with the shipment and a safety data sheet on request. Of the non-peptide actives on this site it has the narrowest cosmetic use, and the formulators who ask for it usually have a specific concept in mind, often one in which the colour is part of the idea.
That colour is the first thing to understand: cyanocobalamin is intensely red, and at ordinary use levels it tints a formula visibly. The second is light: the cyano ligand is photolabile, and the colour shifts and then fades as the molecule degrades.
Formulation notes
Chemistry only; nothing below is an efficacy statement.
- Light first. Light breaks the cobalt-cyanide bond and converts cyanocobalamin to hydroxocobalamin, then to colourless breakdown products. Add it in the cool-down phase, keep bulk solutions covered and specify opaque primary packaging. Clear bottles are not an option for this active.
- pH window. The molecule is most stable in mildly acidic to neutral bases, roughly pH 4 to 7. Strongly acidic and strongly alkaline bases both degrade it. Buffer the water phase inside the window and check for pH drift on stability.
- Ascorbic acid and reducing agents. Ascorbic acid, sulfites, thiols and similar reducers degrade cyanocobalamin in solution, and the colour fades as they do. Keep vitamin C and B12 in separate products or separate compartments.
- Trace metals. Iron and copper ions catalyse degradation. A chelator in the water phase is compatible and helps; the molecule's own cobalt is held inside the corrin and is not stripped by cosmetic chelators.
- Colour as a design constraint. At ordinary use levels the formula is pink to red. An opaque emulsion mutes it; a clear gel shows it. Either way the colour has to hold across the shelf life, because a fading tint is the first sign of degradation.
- Cobalt is not a contaminant. Cobalt is a structural atom of the molecule. An elemental screen reports it in proportion to the cyanocobalamin present; that result describes the active, not an impurity, and is read separately from the extraneous-metals line on the COA.
Use level is the formulator's decision, set from colour, stability and tolerance work in their own base.
